Hello Gorgeous: the Fanny Brice Estate

Fanny Brice was a comedienne and Ziegfeld Follies star that was played by Barbara Streisand in Funny Girl.  Brice lived in a home on North Faring Road in Hollywood from the time it was built in 1938 until her death in 1959.  The home has been featured on multiple covers of Architectural Digest.

In 2001, Laura and Richard King bought the property.  They wanted to rehab it, redesigning the interior layout to better fit their family, and expand the footprint about 30 percent.  They were quite keen on keeping the original integrity of the building intact.

When it came time to renovate, they discovered that the rehab would mean removing almost the entire structure.  However, they were able to keep the front facade intact, and build the remaining exterior with windows and bricks that matched the original 1930s structure.

The renovation took five and a half years.

But after living there for about seven years, the Kings put the house up for sale.  They were asking $65 million.
