Frank Lloyd Wrights’ Usonian House Built at Florida Southern College
Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Usonian House in 1939 for Florida Southern College in Lakeland. It was never built.
The Usonian House was built this year at the college, with an event announcing its opening on November 1st.
It’s the first time since the 1960s that a Frank Lloyd Wright house has been built for its original client on its original site.
The design on the 2-bedroom home features 1,978 textile blocks in 47 different shapes and 5,000 glass colored glass block inserts.
It was originally intended to be used as faculty housing, but will now be used as Sharp Family Tourism and Education Center.
